ABOUT

james bradbury head shot

I am a creative-coder and sound artist from Perth, Western Australia. I have, in the last few years, found myself interested in building digital tools for composition that can shape musical structure and explore pattern generation. I'm also keen on the misadventures of machines that can "listen" and discover, on their own terms, organisations of sound that are surprising and reflexive. I like to make music that can be challenging and unrelenting, while also exploring fragile and liminal textures and forms. Ideally the computer sounds like a computer.

I used to work at Ableton on the Research and Development team, as well as the Max for Live team. Before that, I worked as a Research Fellow in Creative Coding on the Fluid Corpus Manipulation project. I'm currently a Lecturer of Music at the University of Western Australia, and am working on projects with Mark Fell and Rian Treanor at https://intersymmetric.xyz.
